Matrixpack, a prominent label printer converter in the UAE, has significantly boosted its capabilities with the recent installation of the Gallus Labelmaster 440 press. This investment enhances the company’s offerings and meets the growing demand for high quality labels. Packaging MEA’s Chief Editor, Ben Daniel, spoke with Sudheer Ali, General Manager of Matrixpack, about the company’s growth and future plans.
Matrixpack was founded in 2015, starting its operations with a Gallus EM 280 label press. “We were a group of ex-colleagues with a shared vision to take Matrixpack to new heights,” Ali explained. “Our focus on excellent service and quality, combined with a dedicated team, has been key to our success.”
Initially, Matrixpack specialized in self-adhesive labels, but market demands prompted the company to expand into shrink sleeves. In 2018, Matrixpack added a Karlville shrink sleeving machine, entering this niche market. “There’s growing demand for shrink sleeves, particularly from Beverage and Dairy producers,” Ali noted. “Although the market was small, we saw potential in short-run jobs, which led us to expand into this area.”
Matrixpack’s resilience was tested during the COVID-19 pandemic, but since 2022, the business has bounced back. This recovery drove the company to invest in a Gallus Label Master machine, increasing their shrink sleeve production. “About 20% of our business is currently in shrink sleeves, but we expect that figure to rise with our new machines,” Ali added.
In a bold move, Matrixpack also entered the digital label printing sector by investing in a Durst Tau 340 RSC-S digital label press. “The market for short-run jobs, especially in cosmetics and lubricants, is growing,” said Ali. “Digital printing compliments our core business, and the Durst label press helps us manage these shorter runs efficiently.”
Ali acknowledged that managing ink consumption is a challenge with digital printing. “We use an automated software that helps in monitoring ink deposits and accordingly we a schedule the jobs for production,” he explained. This approach has helped Matrixpack streamline operations and maintain profitability.
In addition to new machinery, Matrixpack has relocated to a larger facility in Umm Al Quwain. To maximize productivity, minimize waste and achieve OEE, we have implemented a custom-built ERP system. “Our ERP system manages everything from manufacturing to financials” said Ali.
Looking ahead, Matrixpack plans to expand its presence in the region, particularly in Saudi Arabia. “We’re exploring opportunities to establish a facility there,” Ali revealed. “The UAE market is competitive, and we see growth potential in Saudi Arabia.”
Ali concluded by emphasizing Matrixpack’s commitment to quality and reliability. With its recent investments in advanced technology and a focus on customer satisfaction, Matrixpack is poised to continue its growth and maintain its leadership in the label printing industry.
